The  First  issue   of   The Clarksville Times  made  its  appearance   January  18, 1873.    The Times was established by W. R. Hamilton and W. J. Swaim and  was published in a private home about two blocks east of the public square.  The entire plant consisted of a Washington hand press, a composing stone, one table and a few fonts of primer and display type.

Hamilton was a native of Red River County and a practical printer who learned the trade in the plant of The Northern Standard.   Charles DeMorse, known as the Father of Texas journalism, was editor and publisher of The Northern Standard.  He closed the office and retired in 1873.

Additional information about The Clarksville Times can be found in the book, Red River Recollections, published in 1986 by The Red River County Historical Society.

The Clarksville Times is published each Thursday, except the Thursday between Christmas and New Years.  As a weekly newspaper, The Times, has its own niche: one of providing news of local and county events, and keeping its subscribers up-to-date on activities within their community.  It also serves as a weekly "Letter from Home" to those readers who have moved from the area.   Bryan Giguere is the Managing Editor.

The Clarksville Times can be delivered to you anywhere in the world.  The yearly subscription cost is $20.00 for Red River County residents and members of the Armed Forces.  Delivery anywhere else is $28.00 per year.  To subscribe, mail check or money order to the following address:
