Old Church Theatre
The Gothic stone building that is the Old Church Theatre in Clarksville was
built in the 1920's as the spiritual home of a small congregation of Red River County
members of the Episcopal Church.
Regular services were held in the historic building until the 1980's when the
Episcopal Diocese of Dallas closed the Church because of dwindling membership.
The Diocese deeded the building to the Red River Historical Society, but it
sat empty for several years.
In 1991, the Society leased the church building to Clarksville native, Boyd
Hurt, an accomplished musician and music teacher, who began featuring the Old Church
Theatre concerts monthly.
Well known and established, as well as up-and-coming, musicians from all over
the nation have performed at the Old Church Theatre and the list of performers already
scheduled continues the new tradition of quality entertainment presented monthly at the
Old Church Theatre with the generous support from individuals and business leaders in
Clarksville and North Texas area.
The Old Church Theatre is brought to you in part by funding through a grant
from The Texas Commission For The Arts.
