On September 9, 2001,with a large group in attendance, Mike Hill, Our new President, presided over the fall cemetery meeting. After a short business meeting, Sam Rice gave the dedication of the gazebo, built in memory of Billy Underwood by his wife, Kathryn and daughters, Kathy and Nancy. Sam reminisced about the old church and tabernacle that once stood very close to the spot where the gazebo was built. He talked about the families who lived in the community and the activities centered around the church.
Ed Dodson, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Clarksville closed with prayer. After we adjourned, the crowd walked over the cemetery and there was a lot of visiting.
It was a beautiful day and the cemetery looked great. After the ice storm, we didn’t think the cemetery would ever look the same. Well, it may look even better. Of course, there are always many things to be done. We are going to plant crepe myrtles across the front this spring and the road needs more gravel. Nancy Rains is in the process of mapping the cemetery so every grave can be easily located.
As you know, the cemetery is maintained by donations. The ice storm clean up was an unexpected expense. Also mowing and trimming in the summer must be done frequently.. Your contributions are appreciated.
Please make plans to attend our May meeting which will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2002.
